Home of The World's Greatest Campers

Staff

On behalf of our year round staff, thank you for your interest in summer ministry opportunities at Yosemite Sierra Summer Camp.

Working at YSSC just might be the most challenging, most surprising, most exhausting and most meaningful job you'll ever have. And probably the most fun too! Each summer over 70 college students and young professionals come together to serve approximately 125 campers per 2-week session. We believe investing in campers longer than a week allows for much greater opportunity to help them grow in character, skills, relationships and faith!

Staff roles are diverse, just like the staff personalities and temperaments we hire. One very unique and wonderful thing about YSSC's staffing, however, is that every single staff member will have opportunities to interact with and supervise campers. From cabin counselors to kitchen staff, boat driver to maintenance staff, all staff members will receive training and support to do this part of their job well.

Staff are selected based on Christian maturity, experience working with children, communication skills, and zest for life. We purposefully hire a diversity of temperaments, talents, and backgrounds to create a balanced and healthy staff family. Length of service ranges from 10 to 13 weeks depending on a staff member's role. Priority is given to staff who can work the entirety of our summer program.

Who will we be serving? YSSC campers range in age from 8 to 16. Approximately 70% come from Southern California, with the remainder coming from Northern California, other states and even a handful from other countries. The majority of our campers come from middle to upper income households, although YSSC remains committed to providing opportunities for financially disadvantaged children to also attend the program. This group of campers makes up at least 10% of our population. 60-70% of our campers come from families who attend church, while we have the privilege of sharing Christ's love, forgiveness, and guidance to the remaining campers who do not receive this nurturing at home. 12% of our campers come from families whose parents are separated or divorced. Approximately 60% of our campers return year after year, and we delight in serving, teaching, and playing with ALL of our campers!
